RBBB Summer Program

Did you know summer learning loss creates a 2.5 – 3 year learning gap between children of low and middle income families by the time they reach the fifth grade? (AZ Center for Afterschool Excellence Study)

This summer, Read Better Be Better will again partner with Valley of the Sun United Way and The Boys & Girls Club of Metro City (Tri-City Branch, Avondale) to run a summer program. The program will be run as part of Valley of The Sun United Way’s Summer Learning Collaborative, which aims to infuse summer programs with literacy activities to make sure children are honing their reading skills all summer long and having fun – the perfect mandate for RBBB! Last summer, the kids at the Boys & Girls Club in Avondale were lined up waiting for programming to start every day – it was a roaring success!!

As an added bonus, RBBB “bigs” from our Avondale schools ALL have the opportunity to participate as experienced “bigs” for the summer program. Volunteer bigs will receive a scholarship to attend the Boys & Girls Club for the whole summer as a reward for their service. Way to #bebetter!

Watch out next month for updates and photos from the summer program.
