NO on Prop 320

At Read Better Be Better, our mission is to equip youth with the skills to read and lead. That mission depends on strong public schools that can support students, educators, and families. For that reason, we urge Arizonans to vote NO on Proposition 320.

While Prop 320 is being promoted as a way to increase classroom spending, its real impact could be to force many public school districts to make significant cuts to critical student services and supports. To comply with rigid spending requirements, districts will likely be forced to reduce investments in counseling, literacy interventions, professional development, family engagement, transportation, and other programs that help students succeed.

Importantly, Prop 320 could also jeopardize valuable after-school and enrichment programs that students and families rely on. Programs like Read Better Be Better help students strengthen their literacy, leadership, and confidence beyond the school day. If districts are forced to redirect funding to meet Prop 320's requirements, partnerships and programs that provide these opportunities could be among those at risk.

Arizona schools are already navigating teacher shortages, limited resources, and growing student needs. Rather than giving local educators the flexibility to make decisions that best serve their communities, Prop 320 would impose a one-size-fits-all mandate and financial penalties on districts that cannot comply.

Our position is informed by extensive research and conversations with superintendents, educators, and school leaders across Arizona. The message we heard was clear: Prop 320 would make it harder for schools to provide the comprehensive support students need to thrive.

For the sake of Arizona's students, families, and educators, we encourage voters to learn more, listen to local school leaders, and vote NO on Proposition 320.
